100 square kilometres around Stourbridge!
We must be mad to do this! 100 photos, one for each square kilometre around Stourbridge, arranged in a grid of 10 by 10 kilometres. Why? Because we believe this is without doubt the best way for visitors around the world to see what Stourbridge and the surrounding area is REALLY like, instead of just showing you what we want you to see. Click on one of the squares and it could be rural, suburban or industrial, such is the diversity of the region. Some of the photos are a bit dull due to lack of light at this time of year, so we will probably replace some of them. In time it would be great to do it all again in the Summer. While taking the photographs we set one or two ground rules. First, we tried to take our photos well within the one kilometre square i.e. avoiding the edges, using an OS map for guidance. The downside to this rule is that we could not take some of the photos that we wanted to, such as idyllic village scenes, or indeed Stourbridge town centre, but we had to stay true to the concept. If we had to take a photo that was close to one edge we shot it towards the centre of the square to compensate. Additionally, we tried to avoid taking photos that might have given the wrong impression about an area. For example, one of our photos of the Lodge Farm reservoir looked remarkably like the Lake District! So much so that we decided not to include it as Netherton is a predominantly residential area with housing all round the reservoir (Do you want to see it anyway?). Even so, the photo we show still looks pretty good despite the dull weather. All photos are unmodified except for slight alterations to brightness where necessary. We chose not to use any zoom so the view in the photo is as you would see if you were actually there.
