EXTRACTS
FROM MINUTES OF THE MEETING (312th Meeting) The Chairman welcomed Mr M Caddick, our Town Centre Manager and Mr D Harcourt of Stourbridge in Bloom; Mrs Scott congratulated them on the winning of the Heart of England Silver Gilt Award for 2006. She invited them to address the meeting. They responded by thanking Stourbridge Township Council for supporting the event, congratulating members on individual awards that they had been received. A very informative visual presentation followed which enabled members to ask questions and to offer suggestions for Stourbridge in Bloom and indeed other events planned for our town during 2007 and in the future. Plans were outlined for the provision of street furniture including new lighting poles in Stourbridge colours. It was hoped that our Town Clock would be refurbished and repainted in the town colours in time for the planned events. Our Council has made several representations to DMBC with regard to The Clock and Mr J Shepherd will write to Mr P King at DMBC giving our support to the plans. Members heard that the main focus of this year would be the softening of the appearance of the Ring Road and brightening up key gateways into the town centre. The selection of suitable sustainable shrub planting, chosen for quality rather than quantity and with automatic watering provisions, will be complimented by hanging baskets and floral displays. The achievements of Stourbridge children last year were also recognised with individual awards in addition the Best Heart of England School Award won by the pupils of Ham Dingle School. To applause from members, our Chairman thanked David Harcourt and Matt’ Caddick for their very informative presentation. Members welcomed PCSO Gavin Else of the West Midlands Police. There had been no PACT meetings to report upon, but the known dates and venues of future meetings have been circulated in our bulletin. Mr B S Craddock has liaised with Mr G Randle (DMBC traffic light consultant) with regard to the synchronisation of traffic controls on the Ring Road and in connection with proposals made on behalf of our Council. Mr Craddock was asked to continue these communications - reporting back to us when these consultations are complete. Members again
welcomed the opportunity to be able to direct general police related questions
to PCSO Gavin Else. The officer was able to confirm that three extra PCSO’s
are now working in Stourbridge; they are Sue Delahay a former local traffic
warden, Chanel Campbell and Stuart Garratt. He addressed queries relating
to town centre police matters in general.
