Stourbridge War Memorial

July 15th 2008 - It's OK! Councillor Mike Attwood has confirmed that the plaques on the memorial have been taken away for refurbishment and have not been stolen. Even so, maybe it is something we need to think about as the price of metal soars, metal thefts of this type are becoming more common.

The War Memorial was financed by public subscription in memory of those who fell in the First World War and was erected outside the public library in 1923. It was designed by Ernest Pickford and unveiled by the Earl of Coventry on 16 February 1923. It was later moved to its present position in Mary Stevens Park in the 1960's.

The names of all who fell during the Worlds Wars are listed as a mark of respect, please click on the links below. This may also be of value to those tracing family history. It may be possible to put photographs of the next Remembrance Day service as well. If you have any other ideas for this "virtual" war memorial please contact us.
