Long Lost Friends and Relatives with a Stourbridge connection See also: Long lost friends archive, Genealogy and Can you help?

Trying to find an old friend or relative from the Stourbridge area? Simply e-mail us and we'll put it on here for you. Old school reunions, company reunions - send them in! For your own security please adhere to the usual common sense rules of the web and only make contact with people you know to be genuine. This section is devoted to finding friends and relatives, please go to the genealogy section for appeals and links regarding tracing family history. Don't forget to let us know how you get on! For an example, please see the message just received from Peter Smith in Canada, who posted his original message on this page a few years ago:

Hallelujah!! I posted a message on your "long lost" board some time ago. After the passage of what seemed to be a long period of time - I got a hit!! I was seeking some information with respect to some English lads who were evacuated to the Canadian prairies during the bleak days of World War II. Now, I am in the process of corresponding with the son of one of the lads and the nephew of the other two. Obviously, I want to thank you for the work that you must put into such an endeavor and special kudos for even caring about things like this. The world wide web is an amazing tool with an incredible ability to eliminate barriers between people around the world. It would be marvelous if nations could learn from Web specialists such as yourselves as they attempt to deal with political issues. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Peter Smith

Below is an old school photo - King Edwards Grammar School 1939! Apologies for the poor image quality but if you click on one of the segments of the photo it will take you to a much larger version. We felt it was necessary to make the images this large in order for people to recognise staff and pupils in the photo. The age of the pupils in the photo must now range from about 80 to 90 years. My own family connections recognise several in the photo, if you think you do please contact us. Email Stourbridge

Memoirs of a King Edwards Schoolboy - W J Green 1933 to 1940. W John Green is in the far right of the photo above, third row back, second from the end.

Hoping to trace and possibly contact the family of David Boughton-Thomas, who in 1956 was living at Holly Bank, Norton, Stourbridge. At that time he owned a vintage Alvis, which later was acquired by my father. I'm trying to assemble a full history of the car and David evidently played a part in it! Thanks, Andy Spiceley. I am helping a friend whose father went from Stoke Mandeville to a Ministry of Pensions Hospital in Stourbridge.  John George Whiddon b.1910, in Devon was a member of an RAF plane which crashed in Alexandria, Egypt in WW2.  John (Jack) was the only survivor and was given compassionate leave.  On his way home to see his family he suffered a brain haemorrhage and spent the remaining ten years of his life in hospital. My friend's mother was also unable to look after their son, Albert, who was fostered in Scotland.  He is now anxious to regain contact with any members of his birth family.  Albert remembers being taken to visit his father in hospital in Stourbridge.  I have searched for Jack's death and think I have found it in Chepstow.  Jack's mother Susan may have lived in Stourbridge too.  There is also a connection with Bath and a family called Pepperell. Albert has told me what he remembers but has lost the address of the only cousin he was in touch with.  He, and I, would be most grateful for any help.
Regards, Frances Sharp (Rec'd 24 Feb 10)

My English penfriend Sarah Jane Charlwood lived in Stourbridge during period 1974-1982 and I visited her several times when I was young. My name is Patricia Legland, I'm a French woman of 47 years old now, divorced and I would like to get in touch with Sarah Jane but I
know she is no more living in Stourbridge. Her mother Dorothy died in december 1980, her father was a teacher in Stourbridge and retired in Morton in March. Does someone in Stourbridge know where Sarah Jane is now living and can help me to find her somewhere in England ? I investigated several times without any reply. Do not hesitate to contact

Hi, I'm trying to trace any persons that RENTED a house on Ladysmith Road, Cradley Heath between 1938 and 1952.  I know the house was owned by a certain family but they lived elsewhere.  It is a family who rented pre/post war. They had a boy aged approx 5 yrs, who unfortunatly died and a daughter, approx 2-3 yrs, who is still living, to my knowledge.  The father was a carpenter of sort and owned a motor car. Any help in finding a name to go with these details would be very greatfully received.  Thank you, mandy.maguire@hotmail.co.uk (rec'd 13th Mar 09)

Hi,  I have researched the 49 names of the men of Lye and Wollescote Stourbridge listed upon the beautiful stained glass window in the Memorial Chapel of Christchurch the Lye and have the records of all but one. The name of D HART is listed but I have not found any information about this man other than in the Church magazine of June 1950  where the list of the voluntary contributions for the purchase of the window shows a D Hart making a contribution.
During the course of this project I have discovered a further 9 men of the district who lost their lives and are not on the window.  5 of these men are buried in the local Lye Cemetery.  A Memorial Book was recently presented to the Church and now includes the records of all 59 men. Should anyone know of the HART families who lost a loved one during WW2 would they please contact Raymond Griffiths at rwgriffiths@blueyonder.co.uk   or 01384 392647. (Rec'd 13th Mar 09)
