I'm trying to find out more about the person whom I believe to be my 3g-grandfather, namely John Harris, locksmith, who I think was born in Lye Waste c 1794. His son William was born c 1829 in Birmingham. I would be very grateful for any information that might shed light on William and his family before he moved to Leigh in Lancashire as a single man c 1850. I'd also love to know more about the life of locksmiths in Worcs and Warwickshire. I assume this was a trade that called for a lengthy apprenticeship: is this correct? In May 2004 I wrote to you about my 6xggf - Charles BLOUNT [1655-1691]. He had two children - Elizabeth Blount christened 20th March 1686, and Peter Blount christened 3rd March 1687/88. This Peter Blount [1688-1765] became clockmaker in Cleobury Mortimer after serving an apprenticeship with Edward Willcocks/Willcox the Clockmaker of Old Swinford. Edward Willcox was christened 19th November 1662 at Old Swinford. In 1715 he was \'convicted of swearing two oaths and paid four shillings to the Poor Box and sat in the stocks two hours, being his first conviction\'. He took Joseph Lyddell as an apprentice in 1730. I estimate he took Peter Blount as apprentice about 1702. Since then I have found that Charles Blount’s father, Walter Blount lived in Amblecote in a house called BLUNTS. Any reference to Blount or Willcox welcome. My email has changed since 2004; now Cyril.Blount@Sky.com Cyril D. Blount, Huddersfield UK.

I live in Florida but am originally from Canterbury Kent,. Back in 1875 my grt grt grandfather was killed , His name was Alleyne Rogers and he was a reverend who resided in Stourbridge and is buried there somewhere. I am trying to find out where and more about him. This is the newspaper story excerpt:

"On August 15 the Rev Alleyne Rogers, for many years rector of Brockmoor, near Dudley, but recently residing at Stourbridge, was killed on the Great Western Railway, Mr.Rogers, who was 73 years of age, had been to bmethwick, near Birmingham, to preach some anniversary sermons, and on reaching Stourbridge station in the evening he attempted to leave a first-class compartment before the train had stopped. His foot slipping from the carriage step, he fell between the edge of the platform and the running carriages, and was carried along for several yards. In order to extricate him it was found necessary to raise the carriage several feet by means of a " lifting jack" Life, however, was then extinct, the legs and arms having been literally torn from the body, and many of the rib bones broken."

I would greatly appreciate any information on him and where I might get more, also any relatives still living, thanks in advance, Sincerely Sylvia (Rec'd 19th July 2013)

Hi there, I am writing to you from Australia. A couple of weeks ago, I saw a TV show on the narrowboats called "The Water Boatman". In one of the episodes, there was a segment on a business which made canopies for the long boats.
The lady who owned the business was Vicky Tonks. I don\'t know how old the show is, but when I saw the name Tonks I sat up and took note, as one of my ancestors was William Tonks, who was born in the Worcester area about 1754. William was in the Royal Marines, and was on the flagship Syrius which arrived in Sydney Australia in 1788. The name Tonks was changed to Tunks someshere along the line, and we have an association here in Australia called The Tunks Descendants Assoc, which has done a lot of geneaology on the family, but no one seems to be able to find any record of William prior to leaving England. The reason for my email is that I am wondering if it would be possible to get in touch with Vicky, as the name is so unusual, it could be more than coincidence.
I am hoping you can help me Kind regards Kristin Stevens (Rec'd 27th June 2012)

I have made a lot of progress in my research on my biological roots. Surnames of interest: Rule, Drewry and Guest. My main focus at present is on James Rule. He was born in Glasgow to John Rule & Margaret Anderson. He had 2 younger brothers; John & George. He married Phoebe Anne Drewry in 1879. They had 2 sons; Philip Anderson Rule 1881 & Archibald Guest Rule 1884. Family apparently broke up. Phoebe & Archibald emigrated to USA 1887, Philip 1895. James perhaps became a homeless person. Records of living at Dudley Union Workhouse off & on late 1890\'s. 1901 is last entry. Perhaps died on the streets without I.D. and was buried in a pauper\'s grave. Info on James, John & George and families would be appreciated. THANKS P.R.Baker prbaker43@earthlink.net (Rec'd Jan 2012)

Her name is Dorothy Corser and research goes back to Stourbridge (noted as a place where the corsers hailed, Upton Crescent I think). As I have only just begun my research i am very interested in finding out if there may be anything you might be able to help me with. thank you and kind regards, Amanda McNaught - Sydney, Australia sparkles2@bigpond.com (Rec'd 3 Jan 2012)
