The Stourbridge Lion - See also: Stourbridge Locomotives tour

Much has been written about this locomotive, largely because of its claim to fame - that it was the first steam locomotive to run on a commercial line in the United States. Built by Foster, Rastrick & Co. in 1829, the Stourbridge Lion's historic first run took place on August 8th of that year. It is now on view at the B&O Railroad Museum, Baltimore MD, on loan from The Smithsoniam Institute, Washington DC.

WORK ON THE OLD FOUNDRY IS NOW UNDERWAY

This Grade II listed building has been vandalised and been in a sorry state for years. Local historian Dr Paul Collins believes the site is of huge historical importance and should be developed into a heritage centre and exhibition to celebrate this unique piece of history. UPDATE OCTOBER 2012 - We have received confirmation that work has now started on the restoration of the old foundry. It will take about 18 months to make it into a state of the art medical centre - GREAT NEWS!
