My daughter's friend has a Boer War medal that has been passed down through her family and is attempting to find someone living who would like to accept it back It means a lot for her to finally find someone as it has been a long term mission with no success so far. It was given to Wilfred Stokes born 1879 Brierley Hill- died 1941 Stourbridge.
Her family has a line of Stokes but is not related to Wilfred's although curiously they have a picture of Wilfred and his seven brothers taken in about the 1930's.
I have built a rough Stokes family tree for Wilfred and one for the Stokes of my friend and cannot find any link at all to show they are related.
I can send you emails that I have with the query about Wilfred and the picture etc plus the trees to gain a better idea of why it is so difficult. I am a retired volunteer family tree researcher for a Heritage Centre in Adelaide, South Australia but the medal has stumped me as to the way forward. I am usually looking backwards!....
Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Kind Regards

Hello : I lived in Stourbridge aged 5-7 in c1940/42. We had arrived by GWR at S/bridge Town station. It was snowing and we had nowhere to live. Walking up the High Street my mother found a room above MacFisheries. Dad was away in the RAF. I went to primary school and have a Summer 1942 group photo. Sometime c1941, I contracted pneumonia and was placed in a children's hospital (? Dudley). From there I saw the fires of the B'ham blitz. At 88 and a widower I am now writing my life story. Can you help me with the S'bridge part? Would a letter with photo to the local paper help?

“Can anyone recall the name of the large house that was on the corner of Forge Road and Enville Street ,opposite the entrance to the Enville Street Infants School which was converted to smaller accommodation and around the 1960’s was demolished and replaced with purpose built 2 or 3 storey flats .I recall it being used for some families that were housed there during the Second World War
Many thanks, Rob Stanton (Rec'd 12th March 2022)My name is Dylan Guthrie and I am actually reaching out from the USA {Seattle, WA, USA to be specific} and am writing to you to ask for help with some research for a project. Simply this... I\'m researching for an animated film about the English rock group Led Zeppelin. The film itself is going to be called "Friends\". Partly for the song {on 'Led Zeppelin III'}. But also because I believe that all four members in Zeppelin were truly friends... I know through some of my reading that vocalist Robert Plant went to school at King Ed\'s until 1966. Plant said in an interview that he sat his A-Levels. So I believe that he actually graduated. I am looking for anyone who may have attended King Ed's around the same time and who may remember Robert Plant. I have already contacted the Birmingham Mail on this. But I don\'t think that I have heard back yet. I am also looking for anyone living in either Birmingham or Kidderminster who might remember Plant and/or his family. Get back to me,
Thanks! Dylan (Rec'd 9th Aug 2017)

I am researching all golf professionals who went to fight for King & Country in the Great War of 1914-1918 and never returned. One of these brave hero\'s was Charles Ernest Richards. He was born at Penn Common, Wolverhampton and was later a resident of Stourbridge. He was the Professional at Stourbridge Golf Club from 1903-1914 when he enlisted in the Dorsetshire Regiment. His rank was Private: Service No. 31235 and was killed in action 11th August 1918. Charles Richards is buried in Bouchoir New British Cemetery and commemorated on War Memorials at Stourbridge and Old Swinford St Marys Church. That is all the information I have on him so any additional background data or photographs would be greatly appreciated. Best wishes Phil Weaver (Rec'd 18 Jul 2017)

I am researching and will publish an article on American glazier, Thomas Godfrey (1704-1749) who invented the Quadrant about 1730. I am interested in how he glazed his windows as I cannot find any technical details about late 17th and early 18th century glazing tools and techniques. John Fanning Watson published information on him ca. 1830 stated he did not glaze like done in his time but rather used lead. Unfortunately no such glazed windows can be found in Philadelphia at any old structures like James Logan\'s mansion, Stenton where Godfrey glazed or at Christ Church or the Old Pa State House, now Independence Hall, also places where he was thought to have worked. Your website is really very interesting for researches. I write a book on a
small Rolls-Royce from 1938 chassis GZR37. I now discovered that the first owner,
J Homery Folkes was a Stourbridge architect and, incidentally, the architect
of the car showroom on Hagley Road occupied by The Stour Valley Motor Cy. His
office was on the first floor of the car showroom building. He never took delivery
of the car. Finally this Rolls-Royce was sold in March 1939 to Roy Curtis Robinson
(1887-1948), born in Stourbridge in 1887. He must have lived at Brindley Hall,
Kinver village, most of his life and his wife also, Jessie May Robinson I try
to find photos of J Homery Folkes, R.C. Robinson, his house PLUS, if possible
a photo of that small Rolls-Royce and as much as possible détails concerning
these persons.

New Oxfam Group in Stourbridge - your invitation to join! Oxfam
Fundraising Groups are groups of like minded people who organise fun, friendly
events to change the lives of some of the poorest people on the planet. Across
the UK, we have over 50 groups who organise events ranging from sponsored walks
and quiz nights to murder mystery events and summer balls. The one thing our
groups have in common is that they really enjoy what they do - and I'm e mailing
to invite you to join them too. You'll meet like-minded people, develop new
skills, be part of some fantastic events and there's even the opportunity to
visit one of Oxfam's projects and see the difference you make first hand. We're
planning to hold our first group meeting in Stourbridge on the evening of 24th
January, and at the moment, we've got five wonderful volunteers who are ready
to get started. We just need a couple more people to help get the group up and
running - and I was wondering whether you may be able to spare just a couple
of hours a month to get involved? Whatever your talents are, there's a role
for you - whether it be organising events, baking cakes or counting the cash!
If you are interested in getting involved, please do let me know - either by

Hello, My name is Judy Hornsby and I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I need
your help. I am looking for a picture of my Grandfather, Edward Poulton. He
died on December 25th, 1937 in I think a car accident in Pedmore, Worcestershire.
I have checked with the Birmingham Library and Pedmore Genealogy and nothing
has come up. It was suggested I try Stourbridge. He was born on November 19th,
1884 in Barton Walton, Tring, Hertfordshire, England. Is there anyone who could
help me with this request? I thought maybe his picture may be in the newspaper
with is obituary. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance.
Cheers, Judy (Rec'd 7th June 2011)

I have recently been given a very old photograph of a mother and child taken by
H BIRD, photographic artist, Talbot Street, Stourbridge. It may be a photograph
of my great-grandmother Sarah BIRD neeTIPTON (dau of Thomas and Rosehannah
nee WYATT) as either the child or the mother. I am seeking information
about H BIRD the photographer and/or his studio so I can date the photograph.
I can be contacted on [email protected]

Hello, I recently purchased from a secondhand shop in Eastbourne East Sussex
an old garden fork with the makers mark that appears to read either SAAGNAS
OR SAAGNIS & SONS STOURBRIDGE. Can you shed any light on this company, where
it was in Stourbridge, when ceased trading etc etc? I would be very grateful
if you can help me. Thank you.
Kind Regards. Jim Clowes. [email protected]

Hi, I was wondering
if you could tell me whether the building of the 1st Southern General Hospital,
Stourbridge Section still exists and where it is or was. A great-uncle of mine
was treated there in April 1917 after being injured in France. Did any
records survive from that time?
Are there any photos available of the hospital either at that time or any other
time?
Many thanks for your help. Best wishes, Rachel
