Trying
to find an old friend or relative from the Stourbridge area? Simply e-mail
us and we'll put it on here for you. Old school reunions, company reunions
- send them in! For your own security please adhere to the usual common sense
rules of the web and only make contact with people you know to be genuine.
This section is devoted to finding friends and relatives, please go to the genealogy section for appeals and
links regarding tracing family history. Don't forget to let us know how you
get on! For an example, please see the message received from Peter Smith in
Canada, who posted his original message on this page a few years ago:
Hallelujah!! I
posted a message on your "long lost" board some time ago. After
the passage of what seemed to be a long period of time - I got a hit!! I was
seeking some information with respect to some English lads who were evacuated
to the Canadian prairies during the bleak days of World War II. Now, I am
in the process of corresponding with the son of one of the lads and the nephew
of the other two. Obviously, I want to thank you for the work that you must
put into such an endeavor and special kudos for even caring about things like
this. The world wide web is an amazing tool with an incredible ability to
eliminate barriers between people around the world. It would be marvelous
if nations could learn from Web specialists such as yourselves as they attempt
to deal with political issues. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Peter Smith

My name is Debbie Bülau from Germany. I am interested in local history and I am searching for family members of Michael John Turner. Trooper Michael John Turner was the son of William and Evelyn Mabel Turner from Stourbridge, Worcestershire near Birmingham. He was the second son of the couple. He joined the Life Guards, an armored car unit of the Guards Armoured Division. He belonged to the 1st Bn. Life Guards Household Cavalry. His service number is 296149. Michael died in action on May 01, 1945 at the age of 20.He probably died in Düdenbüttel, was temporary burried in Helmste and got his final resting place at the war cemetery in Becklingen, lower saxony in Germany. We remind him an two other soldiers in Helmste with a memorial stone. I would like to get in touch with his family for further informations about him. Can someone please help me finding the family? For more informations about our memorials https://www.gedenkorte-kutenholz-und-umgebung.de Best wishes Debbie Bülau (Rec'd 30th Dec 2023)

I am interested in getting in touch with any surviving relatives of the Chance family who lived near Stourbridge during the Second World War and were very hospitable to my aircrew father, J. Clayton Peacock who was a Canadian navigator/officer taking training at R A F Halfpenny Green (now Wolverhampton Airport, I believe). I have just completed reading his letters home to Canada from April 2 1944, till he left England in December 1944, In those letters, he speaks glowingly of weekends spent and the hospitality offered by the Chance Family at their home. From his letters, I understand there was a Lady Ryder who had a hospitality group which seemed to put local civilians in the Stourbridge area in contact with Commonwealth flyers at RAF Halfpenny Green with a view to providing with them a “home away from home”. This is how my father was put in contact with the Chance family.
Fortunately, my father was able to supplement the Chance’s larder from time to time with packages of foodstuffs he received from relatives in Canada, such as cake and peanut butter, which were rationed.
My father’s letters spoke of a Mr. and Mrs. Chance and they appear to have been in the brick manufacturing business. They had a married daughter whose nickname, I believe, was “Fuzzy” who had two children and the three of them had just got out of Singapore before it was taken over by the Japanese.
Unfortunately, the husband of Fuzzy, became a prisoner of war of the Japanese. I am assuming that the children may still be alive and if so, I would be delighted to get in contact with them and express to them our sincere thanks for the hospitality provided by her grandparents.
I would also be very interested in knowing the address of the Chance house so that I could see it, if possible, via the internet.
Thank you for any help you may be. Mark G Peacock email: [email protected] (Rec'd 14th March 2023)

I work for TV Production Company Wall to Wall Media, the makers of Long Lost Family and Who Do You Think You Are. We are currently casting for a new programme provisionally entitled 'Lost Love Stories'.
The programme will document the journey of those keen to reconnect with someone special from their past. Told against a backdrop of rich social history, we will feature stories of romances broken apart by circumstance be it war, migration or another life event.
We are looking for a range of heart-warming stories to feature in the programme anything from a touching wartime story to a story of childhood sweethearts being separated due to a family emigrating to another place. We are looking for stories where couples have been separated for a number of years as a result of circumstance.
I recently came across 'Welcome to Stourbridge' and discovered the long lost friends section saw on the site. I therefore wanted to get in touch to see if you would be able to help us spread the word about our programme in the hopes that we can help someone who wants to reconnect with a long lost love.
I am contacting a few community websites with the hopes of finding stories embedded with rich social history.
Do contact me if you would like to discuss further.
Kind regards Zyreeta (Rec'd 22nd Oct 2019)

I am a grand daughter of
the late Allan Stanier , glassmaker at Stuart Crystal, from his second marriage
to Nellie Self. My Mother was Margaret Stanier but always known as Peggy and
she lived at the family house - The Poplars, 9 Belle Vue, Wordsley until 1946.
I have never met anyone from the Stanier family - I reckon I must have many
relatives in the Stourbridge area as there were 6 children from my Grand Father's
first marriage. I would love it if this is read by any Stanier family members
out there who would like to contact me. I live in hope. Rosemary

Thank you for placing my message on the long lost friends and relatives page
2 weeks ago.
I am delighted to tell you that it was seen by a Stanier family member who
emailed me straight away. We are now in contact with each other by email and
I am hopeful this will lead to me meeting the side of the family that I have
never, in my 59 years, had contact with. Many thanks once again, Rosemary.

Hello there, I might be leaving it a little late, though this is the third I
am trying to find two English friends,I became good friends with over two years
1966-1968 in Australia. Their names are Edward Fellows and Keith Prowse, and
I met them when the three of us were working at Mt Isa mine 1966-1967, and then
we drove over to WA,in my 1964 Datsun Bluebird to work at Mt Tom Price. We separated
in 1968, Keith,a fitter and turner, stayed at Mt Tom Price, and he always said
he was saving enough money to go home to England to buy a Sunbeam Alpine. Eddie
I think had a family member working up north more. I got one letter from Eddie
and I wrote back, and never got a reply.
I know as I\'m 70 years now,one or both could have past on now as they were
both smokers, I would like to contact their famlies if so,spouse, children,if
so. I was born 1943, and they were about the same,so I would say born 1937-1944.
One of them Edward Fellows,I remember saying about getting a bus in Birmingham,
and Keith Prowse said he came from the middle part of England. They both had
top of the range cameras, and took a huge amount of our outback adventures in
Qld and WA,I would love to get some of them for my family. Most of all I still
hope to speak to both of them. What with Skype these days, its so easy to do
that. I do have some photos of Eddie if it helps. I have included a photo of
myself and Eddie,he being the dark hair one on the right.
Kind regards, Bob Burns. (Rec'd 16th

I am trying to contact anyone
who knew the family Bate. My dad, George Harry had two brothers, one who died
in infancy in a road accident and another, Bill who passed away several yrs
ago, he also had a sister who we called Dink, although I think her real name
was Ellen and she, along with my dad lived in Leicester in later yrs. Bill remained
in Stourbridge and he and his second wife had a son, Billy. His second wife,
Margaret passed away a few yrs ago without us ever being told, it was hard as
dad had tried so many times to contact her with no response. By this time my
mum was very ill and subsequently died and dad passed away 5 yrs ago without
ever finding out what happened to his brothers family. Dad went to Old Swinford
school but his remaining siblings stayed with various aunts and uncles living
nearby as his father died in his thirties of gas poisoning in the first world
war and his mum died few yrs later leaving the rest of the extended family to
look after their offspring. If anyone knows about Billy or indeed the Bate family
before dad was born, please contact me. I am 67 and would like to put pieces
together for my children and grandchildren. Of course, all the family worked
at the glass works from the 19th century onwards and I have loads of early glass
in my cupboards that has been passed down. Maybe Billy would like some before
I pop my clogs! If you know anything, please contact me. With thanks. Jake. Jacqueline Duff (Rec'd 6th Feb 2014)

hi am tracy seddon and I am trying to trace my father, whom I have never met.
He in lived in Penn area Wolverhampton in the 60s. My father is called John
Shaw and was possibly born in the 1920s to 1935 in the Wolverhampton area. I
am told that he was a very handsome man with blonde hair, well dressed, well
spoken and educated. In the 60’s he was an engineer and travelled to a
factory called ICI in Darwen, where he would work and fit machinery. He would
stay for a number of nights in Darwen and then retrun to Wolverhampton. He never
lived in Darwen though. It was during this time around 1961 that he met my mother
Harriet Drinkall, who was divorced with three children Carol, Billy and Melvin.
My mother fell pregnant with me and gave birth to me in 1963. She had already
separated from my father, but he did return to try and see me when I was born
and later when I was a teenager. But I was never given the opportunity to meet
him and he left no contact details. At the time he was in a relationship with
my mother, he was already married and she was his second wife. He had children
with his first wife and children with his second wife. His second wife was pregnant
at the same time as my mother and gave birth the same year I was born 1963.
His second wife was also a lot younger than him. I am aware that my father may
be deceased by now, but as he as other children I would like to also make contact
with my half brothers and sisters. please reply to [email protected] (Rec'd 11th Apr 2013)

Hi, I'm an Italian girl living in London interested in a past story between
my ancestor and the famous Firebrick Industry (nowadays called Harris and Pearson).
Let me explain better, my grandad Mr Mario Tonini between 1943-1945 was captured
and made prisoner of war, he cooperated with that firm. He passed away when
he was still young and since immemorial time my dad is trying to find information
about his prison camp and life in there. I only know that the manager at that
time was Mr S.C. Waterton and also that my grandad had a presumed relationship
with a young lady working in that prison camp called Nora(or Norah).
Please, let me know if you have informations about those people (or how to find
infos), if they still are alive and how to contact them!I write here my grandad's
details hoping they can be useful: Mr Mario Tonini, born on 7/06/1915 in San
Martino dall\'Argine(Mantova)-Italy, musician, captured the 13 may 1943 in Enfidaville(Tunisia)
and arrived in Uk on July 1943, his working camps from 1943 to 1946 were n 18,
54, 151, 272. I look forward to receiving your kind reply and I thank you in
advance for the collaboration. You can write me an email or write in English
to my dad's address Mr Tonini Luigi, via Garibaldi 49, 46010 San Martino dall\'Argine

I lived in Stourbridge jan-june 1961, at Ryders, 4 Greenfield Ave. The daugther's
name was Marion and I think she is probably the only one now alive. It would
be really nice to make contact with her if possible. Olle

Hoping to trace and possibly contact the family of David Boughton-Thomas, who
in 1956 was living at Holly Bank, Norton, Stourbridge. At that time he owned
a vintage Alvis, which later was acquired by my father. I'm trying to assemble
a full history of the car and David evidently played a part in it! Thanks, Andy
Spiceley. (Rec'd 6th Aug 2011)

I am helping a friend whose father went from Stoke Mandeville to a Ministry
of Pensions Hospital in Stourbridge. John George Whiddon b.1910, in Devon
was a member of an RAF plane which crashed in Alexandria, Egypt in WW2.
John (Jack) was the only survivor and was given compassionate leave. On
his way home to see his family he suffered a brain haemorrhage and spent the
remaining ten years of his life in hospital. My friend's mother was also unable
to look after their son, Albert, who was fostered in Scotland. He
is now anxious to regain contact with any members of his birth family.
Albert remembers being taken to visit his father in hospital in Stourbridge.
I have searched for Jack's death and think I have found it in Chepstow.
Jack's mother Susan may have lived in Stourbridge too. There is also a
connection with Bath and a family called Pepperell. Albert has told me what
he remembers but has lost the address of the only cousin he was in touch
with. He, and I, would be most grateful for any help.
