Gravestones at St Mary's Church Oldswinford

Stourbridge Gravestones - St Mary's Church Oldswinford

There are thousands of gravestones in several churchyards around Stourbridge, but while walking around St Mary's in Oldswinford I decided to photograph a few and publish the information on this page. I could of course put photos of the gravestones on as well but the big advantage of publishing just the wording on the gravestone is that search engines will pick up the information, making it easier to find in a search, whereas a photograph is of little use to search engines. However, if anyone is interested in seeing the photos I am more than happy to email you a copy. Sadly, I guess around 80% of the gravestones at St Mary's cannot be read because they are made from the local sandstone which erodes very easily, only those of more durable stone are readable. Depending upon the condition of the gravestone there may well be missing information as well, so missing words or letters will be indicated with a question mark, although sometimes I also show a question mark if I am not sure what something says as well. Sometimes I have left out verses to save time, but please contact me if you want more information. If we continue with this idea then we also need to employ a system that will identify the location of the gravestone too, however these first few are quite prominent and easily found. The information between the dotted lines denote information on one gravestone. I haven't even started on the Stourbridge Crematorium yet and there are a huge number of stones there, so it will take quite a while. Back to genealogy page >>>>

Good afternoon from beautiful Adelaide, South Australia! In researching my Hartshorne family in Stourbridge I have stumbled across your lovely website and the section on gravestones.  To say that I was absolutely delighted to find reference to my ancestors is putting it mildly, to say the least - and then to see that you are willing to send an email of the gravestone is simply fantastic!  Thank you so much!

Listed below are just a few readable gravestones at St Mary's Churchyard, Oldswinford, near Stourbridge, UK. See also Wollaston gravestones and just four gravestones located at the back of the Unitarian Chapel, Lower High Street, Stourbridge.
