New Tesco Extra store now open for business in Stourbridge

Official opening of new Tesco Extra store in Stourbridge

A new store, in Stourbridge, has celebrated its opening with a double charity donation, a visit from the local MP, Deputy Mayor of Dudley and a host of celebrations in store!

The Tesco Extra store, on Crown Lane, opened its doors to customers on Thursday 31st October before completing a day of celebrations. The local MP for Stourbridge, Margot James, and the Deputy Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Margaret Aston, were then welcomed as the guests of honour to join store manager Sadie Griffiths and her team to cut a ribbon declaring the store officially open.

Vicki Rowles from Mary Stevens Hospice also attended the store’s launch to receive a £1,000 donation from Sadie and the Tesco Stourbridge team. Celebrations then continued throughout the morning as customers were treated to complimentary refreshments including champagne, cake and orange juice as well as free Halloween face painting. Sadie said: “We are all delighted that the store is now open! We have had a brilliant launch event and it has been a pleasure to welcome Margot James and the Deputy Mayor as valued guests to open the store with us. We are also pleased to support two very worthwhile local organisations with a donation and we would like to thank them for attending our celebrations too.”

Vicki, Head of Fundraising at Mary Stevens Hospice, said: “We would like to thank Tesco Stourbridge. This kind donation will go towards providing specialist care for people living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, as well as dedicated support for their families and carers. It has been a pleasure to be a part of the launch celebrations and we wish the team every success.” The store also made a further £500 donation to Unit3Sixty, an indoor BMX and Skate Park facility and an organisation which Margot James is supporting locally.

MP Margot James said: “I am delighted that the new Tesco store, which has been so long in the planning and development, is now open. Tesco have done a first class job with the development of the whole area around the Crown Centre and the inside of the store looks magnificent. I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Tesco, the people who worked so hard on the site, and those members and officers, past and present, of Dudley Council who worked to secure this development.” Councillor Judy Foster, cabinet member for regeneration, added: “I am delighted that the Crown Centre is complete. Stourbridge town centre has remained open throughout the works and I would like to thank businesses, residents, shoppers and visitors for their continued patience and co-operation.

“I’m sure everyone will look forward to continuing their shopping experience in Stourbridge, which has always been a great town in which to do business, shop and socialise.”

Customers can now experience convenient shopping across two levels at the end of the high street. “We have a great variety of fresh food counters serving meat, fish, deli and takeaway options as well as a pizza counter and olive bar,” added Sadie. “There is also an in store phone shop and optician service as well as extensive range of clothing with F&F on our mezzanine floor.”

There store also offers a wide range of groceries, freezer products, fresh fruit and veg and bread from the in store bakery. The store also provides a great choice of branded items and products from the Finest and Everyday Value range.

Sadie added: “My colleagues and I have worked incredibly hard to ensure that this store was ready for customers. It has been lovely to see so many of the community joining us today; it was nice to hear their positive feedback on the store.”

Launch celebrations continue this weekend with a visit from popular children’s Moshi Monster, Katsuma, on Saturday 2nd November. The character will be making appearances at intervals throughout the day - there will also be free face painting, in store from 11am until 4pm and the local Fire Station will also be in store from 11am until 1pm talking about and promoting firework and Bonfire night safety with customers.

“We are committed to Stourbridge and will continue to work with our customers and the community to become a good neighbour and support in the town,” added Sadie.
The store is now open from 00.01 Monday for 24hours until midnight Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday. Alcohol is available from 6am to midnight Monday to Saturday and during Sunday opening hours.
