GREAT BIKE RIDES IN THE STOURBRIDGE AREA - The Wyre Forest and Bewdley

This is the first of what will hopefully be a series which could be useful to cyclists new to the area, or might be on holiday here, or here for business reasons. This first one is to the Wyre Forest, it is suitable for moderately fit cyclists and covers about 29 miles, mostly on country lanes but includes a few miles on forest tracks as well. It does not need a serious off-road mountain bike, you could even do it on smooth road tyres, just watch out for punctures in the forest!

This route is a favourite of mine because you can cover it in less than 3 hours, or take all day if you want to. The route goes through beautiful Worcestershire countryside, taking in Kinver, Shatterford, Arley, The Severn Valley, right through the middle of the Wyre Forest, Bewdley, Wolverley and Cookley.

Saturday Feb 15th 03 was a fantastic day for photography - very cold, frosty and not a cloud in the sky - even if you have no intention of doing the bike ride please look at the photos - it shows just how stunning the countryside is so close to Stourbridge.

Please see the route below. Click here for printable directions. If you think the bike ride sounds too much like hard work just click on the camera icons and enjoy the photos instead! Alternatively you could just go as far as Kinver and still have a great day out, especially if you have children with you. That would be about 10 miles, or going to Arley on the River Severn is about 22 miles there and back.
