Hi, I´m looking for any info about my Great Great Grandfather George Sankey (b1826 Worcester) who lived at 25 Church Street, Stourbridge between at least 1857 and 1861 (probably longer) and worked as a porter on the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway at Stourbridge station from about 1853. He married Mary Hill (b Coalbournbrook 1828) at Dudley on Christmas Day 1849. I know the family had moved to Birmingham by 1871. His father was Samuel and a Labourer but I have no other details of him. The Sankeys were my mother´s family.

Hi, There is a Cpl A E Baker who was awarded a DCM during WWI his service number was 11398. He was Worcestershire regiment and attended the LTMB (Stourbridge). I am trying to find out more about this gentleman. Any help would be gratefully received. We believe he may be the father of an 80+ year old gentleman who lives locally and is trying to find out more about his father. I have the award citation from London Gazette. From other sources I believe he was 1st Battn. and by the end of the war he had been promoted to at least acting sgt. His first name is Albert and I am hoping the E. stands for Ernest. I can find no death recorded and so he did seem to survive the war. Please feel free to forward this e-mail to another person if they can help.
Many thanks. Marg Muntz (Rec'd 8th Nov 2012)

Two of my wife's ancestors were a Thomas Jinks(?) and his daughter Mary Ann. Their surname is uncertain, a transcript of the 1881 Census has it as "Seaks", and Mary Ann born in Oldswinford. I've found a Mary Ann Jinks of the correct age in the BMD records for Dudley for Sept 1855.Am I on the correct track? The family were in King William St, Amblecote in 1881. Hi there, I am writing to you from Australia. A couple of weeks ago, I saw a TV show on the narrowboats called "The Water Boatman". In one of the episodes, there was a segment on a business which made canopies for the long boats.
The lady who owned the business was Vicky Tonks. I don\'t know how old the show is, but when I saw the name Tonks I sat up and took note, as one of my ancestors was William Tonks, who was born in the Worcester area about 1754. William was in the Royal Marines, and was on the flagship Syrius which arrived in Sydney Australia in 1788. The name Tonks was changed to Tunks someshere along the line, and we have an association here in Australia called The Tunks Descendants Assoc, which has done a lot of geneaology on the family, but no one seems to be able to find any record of William prior to leaving England. The reason for my email is that I am wondering if it would be possible to get in touch with Vicky, as the name is so unusual, it could be more than coincidence.
I am hoping you can help me Kind regards Kristin Stevens (Rec'd 27th June 2012)

I have made a lot of progress in my research on my biological roots. Surnames of interest: Rule, Drewry and Guest. My main focus at present is on James Rule. He was born in Glasgow to John Rule & Margaret Anderson. He had 2 younger brothers; John & George. He married Phoebe Anne Drewry in 1879. They had 2 sons; Philip Anderson Rule 1881 & Archibald Guest Rule 1884. Family apparently broke up. Phoebe & Archibald emigrated to USA 1887, Philip 1895. James perhaps became a homeless person. Records of living at Dudley Union Workhouse off & on late 1890\'s. 1901 is last entry. Perhaps died on the streets without I.D. and was buried in a pauper\'s grave. Info on James, John & George and families would be appreciated. THANKS P.R.Baker [email protected] (Rec'd Jan 2012)

Hi, I live in Australia and have recently researching my grandmothers heritage. Her name is Dorothy Corser and research goes back to Stourbridge (noted as a place where the corsers hailed, Upton Crescent I think). I have noticed however that there is a corser street in stourbridge. I am just wondering if this street would be named after the family. As I have only just begun my research i am very interested in finding out if there may be anything you might be able to help me with. thank you and kind regards, Amanda McNaught - Sydney, Australia [email protected] (Rec'd 3 Jan 2012)
