I'm trying to find out more about the person whom I believe to be my 3g-grandfather,
namely John Harris, locksmith, who I think was born in Lye Waste c 1794. His
son William was born c 1829 in Birmingham. I would be very grateful for any
information that might shed light on William and his family before he moved
to Leigh in Lancashire as a single man c 1850. I'd also love to know more
about the life of locksmiths in Worcs and Warwickshire. I assume this was
a trade that called for a lengthy apprenticeship: is this correct? Mary

Dear Stourbridge Residents, I am researching the Evans family history and
have established a long line of glass-blowers/ makers from my grandfather
James Evans born @1879 back to a William Evans b @ 1814. All the male ancestors
are listed in the 1901-1841 Censuses as either glass blowers or makers. Virtually
all have birthplaces listed as in and around Stourbridge. One has a birthplace
as Coalbourne Hill (where I believe a glassworks was. Sarah is a frequent
wife\'s name as are James, William, Eleanor, Hannah and Ann for children.
I have a number of addresses: 1851: Union Street Stourbridge 1861 Waterloo
Inn, Upper Swinford 1871 Cobden Street, Wollaston, 1881 Brettell Lane Kingswinford.
More recently, I have addresses in Birmingham. I should value enormously any
information/ light that you might be able to provide. For example, I would
love to find out where any of the glassworkers were employed and if at all
possible, what kind of product they made. Any clues as to where I might find
any employee records would be also gratefully received. My grandfather, James
Evans was a glass blower, born in Stourbridge @1879 He and his wife Louisa
moved from Birmingham to Reading (where I was born in 1940) soon after 1901.
It would be great to hear from anyone with any information etc. and I thank
you in hope and anticipation!
Sincerely, Des Evans (Rec'd 21st

I am trying to find information about my great-grandfather, Henry Moody, b.
~1866 in Stourbridge. He was admitted to the Stourbridge Union Workhouse in
1871 and lived there until he was apprenticed to a shoemaker in 1877. I cannot
find any record as to who his parents were. He claimed to be related to Arthur
Hatfield Moody (b 1875 and later mayor of Stourbridge) and Dr. Charles Harry
Moody (b. 1874 in Stourbridge and later organist at Ripon Cathedral) but I
can\'t find any proof of this. I am also trying to find his grandson (my mother\'s
cousin) Brian Parkes (b. 1932 in Stourbridge to Frank and Marjorie Parkes
(nee Moody)) or his children to see if they have any more information. I believe
Brian lived in or near Stourbridge most of his life. Thanks! Joanna (Rec'd 14th Sep 2013)

In May 2004 I wrote to you about my 6xggf - Charles BLOUNT [1655-1691]. He
had two children - Elizabeth Blount christened 20th March 1686, and Peter
Blount christened 3rd March 1687/88. This Peter Blount [1688-1765] became
clockmaker in Cleobury Mortimer after serving an apprenticeship with Edward
Willcocks/Willcox the Clockmaker of Old Swinford. Edward Willcox was christened
19th November 1662 at Old Swinford. In 1715 he was \'convicted of swearing
two oaths and paid four shillings to the Poor Box and sat in the stocks two
hours, being his first conviction\'. He took Joseph Lyddell as an apprentice
in 1730. I estimate he took Peter Blount as apprentice about 1702. Since then
I have found that Charles Blount’s father, Walter Blount lived in Amblecote
in a house called BLUNTS. Any reference to Blount or Willcox welcome. My email
has changed since 2004; now [email protected] Cyril D. Blount, Huddersfield UK.

I live in Florida but am originally from Canterbury
Kent,. Back in 1875 my grt grt grandfather was killed , His name was Alleyne
Rogers and he was a reverend who resided in Stourbridge and is buried there
somewhere. I am trying to find out where and more about him. This is the newspaper
story excerpt:
"On August 15 the Rev Alleyne Rogers, for many
years rector of Brockmoor, near Dudley, but recently residing at Stourbridge,
was killed on the Great Western Railway, Mr.Rogers, who was 73 years of
age, had been to bmethwick, near Birmingham, to preach some anniversary
sermons, and on reaching Stourbridge station in the evening he attempted
to leave a first-class compartment before the train had stopped. His foot
slipping from the carriage step, he fell between the edge of the platform
and the running carriages, and was carried along for several yards. In
order to extricate him it was found necessary to raise the carriage several
feet by means of a " lifting jack" Life, however, was then extinct,
the legs and arms having been literally torn from the body, and many of
the rib bones broken."
I would greatly appreciate any information on
him and where I might get more, also any relatives still living, thanks
in advance, Sincerely Sylvia (Rec'd 19th July 2013)
